Saturday was the opening day of Elliott’s first tee ball season. One big step away from the honking first base of blast ball, and one itsy, bitsy, tiny step towards the big leagues. As my mind drifted to Elliott’s big debut in a Cincinnati Reds uniform many seasons from now, there were plenty of scenes to remind me just how far away that big day is.
Like the difficult task of getting the boys to put their “game faces” on.
Or trying to get the team, at least most of them, to take their focus off the yellow line for at least a glimpse of their fans.
I have to believe that by the big leagues Snoopy is no longer the grand marshal of the parade.
Much to the dismay of a certain fan.
Big league players will all find the ESPN camera, not their mom’s.
The games won’t be held up for potty breaks.
Pep talks will be taken more seriously.
Tees will be returned to the golf courses.
The first base coach won’t have to talk to the opposing players about the importance of sharing first base.
Coach won’t have to clap to let his runner know it’s time to move on.
And the call from the bench to “dig in defense” won’t be taken so literally.
Hilarious!
